Kaj Savaros

The Last Jedi

Kaj Savaros was the only Padawan Jax Pavan had begun to train, but Darth Vader’s actions left him compromised and nearly destroyed. In Jax’s recollection, Kaj’s raw talent and vulnerable nature made his fate not only a loss, but also a narrow escape from dangers he might otherwise have faced without the discipline to withstand them.

Identity and Training

Kaj’s place in Jax’s life was defined by a brief and unfinished apprenticeship: he was the sole Padawan Jax had taken on. Jax remembered him as sensitive, possessed of considerable raw talent, and given little training. He had even less self-control. These qualities made Kaj promising, but also left him poorly equipped to manage the force of his own abilities.

Vader’s Intervention and Its Cost

Darth Vader had compromised Kaj, nearly destroying him. The account presents this damage as part of the wider devastation surrounding Jax: the Jedi Order had already been eclipsed, and Jax believed he might be its last living Jedi Knight. Kaj’s compromised state marked the failure of Jax’s one known attempt to pass on his training under those conditions.

Refuge and Jax’s Reassessment

Jax could regard Kaj’s fate as a mercy, though only in part. He feared that Kaj, already carrying a wounded soul, might have been overwhelmed by the losses of Laranth Tarak and Thi Xon Yimmon as well. Instead, the young man was safe on Shili, spirited away into the care of the Silent, whom Jax described as mysterious, veiled healers. That refuge does not undo Vader’s damage or complete Kaj’s interrupted training; it establishes that, at least for the moment, he is beyond the immediate reach of the dangers Jax fears.
